Explore the Natural World with the Linn Conservancy This Fall

This fall, families and individuals of all ages can experience the natural world in many fun-filled ways through the Linn Conservancy’s Nature Programs.

These programs are designed to provide fun for all ages while educating even the youngest and oldest on the wonders of our local, natural world. Please see the schedule below for all of our upcoming Fall ’23 Nature Programs.

Sunset Paddle and Pints 

Friday, September 8th, 2023

4:30 PM – 8:30 PM

(Members Only)

Location: Milton State Park Boat Launch to the Lewisburg Boat Launch at the end of St. George’s Street, followed by Pints at the Lewisburg Hotel

Join the community of Linn Conservancy members for a beautiful paddle down the Susquehanna River from Milton State Park to Lewisburg followed by a cold pint at the Lewisburg Hotel. Bring your own registered boat and gear, OR contact Adventure Coordinator, Becky Stugart for more information about boat/gear rentals and fees.  Please note ALL participants will be required to wear properly-fitted life jackets while on the water and life jackets will be checked prior to launch. Event is rain or shine, except for thunder and lightning storms. Participants will be notified at least two hours ahead of time for cancellations.

Foraging Workshop

Enjoy seeking and finding native mushrooms and plant species with our experts while learning about amphibians, indicator species, geology and vernal pools on this guided hike.

Guided Bike Ride and Wildflower Meadow Tour – Rescheduled

Starting Location: If you would like to bike 4-5 miles, meet at the Vicksburg Trail Lot, or if you prefer to drive, plan to meet at Harry Haney Park.  End point: Koon’s Trail, North 4th Street, Mifflinburg, PA

Explore the environment and history of the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail and enjoy a tour of the Koon’s Trail Wildflower Meadow.

Learn about an aquatic ecosystem through hands-on learning and investigate underwater critters including fish, crawfish and macroinvertebrates.

Community Fossil Dig

Location: Spring Township Shale Pit, T574, Beaver Springs, PA 

Discover and collect fossils from a quarry containing a rich trove of ancient life and learn about the natural history of our region.  You can expect to find 390 million-year-old marine fossils. The most abundant are brachiopods and crinoids. Trilobites, bivalves, gastropods, cephalopods, corals, and bryozoans are not as common, but have been found here.

This event is in coordination with the Geology professors and students from Bucknell University as well as colleagues from Lycoming College and the PA State Geological Survey.  Parent(s) required to accompany children. Wonders of Wetlands

Location: Montandon Marsh, 1550 St. Rt. 45, Milton, PA 17847

Explore the geology of an ancient river valley and its vibrant wetland ecosystem as well as fascinating historical artifacts of an old canal system.  

Long pants, long sleeve shirt, tall socks and mud boots or closed toe shoes that can get wet are required.  Bug spray recommended.  No bathrooms on site, so plan accordingly.

Please arrive before 9AM as our group will be leaving the parking lot at 9AM and all guests must be with tour guides.  Parking is located at the end of the entry lane, beyond the entry gates and to the right side of the office parking lot beside the quarry office building.

Introduction to Canning/Preserving
