Buffalo Creek Watershed Alliance

Our subsidiary organization, BCWA, has done outstanding work in monitoring and improving the Buffalo Creek watershed. Sampling along the creek from its headwaters in extreme eastern Centre County to its mouth at Lewisburg has been conducted quarterly for many years in conjunction with Bucknell University faculty. In 2004, several grants were secured to produce a video, You Are What You Drink: Reasons to Know and Protect the Buffalo Creek Watershed. Alliance volunteers have assisted PA DCNR in chemical and biological sampling of Halfway Lake at R. B. Winter State Park and with bacteriological sampling along Buffalo Creek. In September of 2009, the Alliance dedicated an Acid Water Remediation Site near the headwaters of Buffalo Creek. Restoration of pH values to near neutral and raising water alkalinity is designed to bring aquatic insects and fish back to the upper reaches of the creek.
