A Note from Our President: DCNR Grant to Help With Shikallamy Bluffs Payment
I am thrilled to announce to you that we heard today from Senator Yaw’s office that the Linn Conservancy has received a significant grant from the PA Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources to help us complete payment on the property on Shikellamy Bluffs, which we purchased in November 2015.
Acquisition of this ecologically significant land, which is contiguous to the Shikellamy State Park and overlooks the confluence of the north and west branches of the Susquehanna River, has been made possible by the support and partnership of local and county government agencies, conservation organizations and you, our members and friends.
In addition to DCNR’s Community Conservation Partnership Program, I want to thank the Linn Conservancy board members for their tireless commitment to this project and the Commonwealth Financing Authority, whose initial grant made this current success possible.
Other people and organizations also made this success possible. First and foremost are the Union County Commissioners and Union County Planning Department and the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership; also the Degenstein Foundation, PPL and many generous individual donors. We especially thank our state legislators Fred Keller and Gene Yaw, the Union Township Supervisors, Mifflinburg Bank and Trust for facilitating our loan, Coldwell Banker Penn One Real Estate and our attorney Tom Clark and his staff.
Once we have received our grant monies from DCNR, we will be in a position to repay our bank loan and give the property to the PA Bureau of State Parks for addition to the Shikellamy State Park. We hope to celebrate in a more public way at that time and look forward to sharing with all of your this exciting landmark in the history of the Linn Conservancy.
Thank you all taking this journey with us.
With considerable excitement and deep gratitude,
Susan Warner-Mills, President
