This spring, families and children of all ages can experience the natural world in many fun-filled ways through the Linn Conservancy’s Nature Programs.

These programs are designed to provide fun for all ages while educating even the youngest and oldest on the wonders of our local, natural world. Please see the schedule below for all of our upcoming Spring ’23 Nature Programs.

Nature’s Explorers – Dance with Kelly Knox
Saturday, March 11th
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
(Ages 4-10 and their families)

Location: Dale’s Ridge Trail, 1471 Strawbridge Road, Lewisburg, PA

Guest Host: Kelly Knox, Associate Professor of Dance, Bucknell University

Enjoy dance and movement in nature. 

This event is in coordination with the Lewisburg Children’s Museum, Bucknell University Humanities Center, and the Union County Historical Society. For children ages 4-10 and their families. Explore the Night Sky

Observe and identify stars and constellations.

Nature’s Explorers – Pictures and Sounds, Look and Listen

Guest Host: Rebecca Meyers, Academic Film Programmer and Lecturer, Bucknell University

Explore photography and music in nature. 

This event is in coordination with the Lewisburg Children’s Museum, Bucknell University Humanities Center, and the Union County Historical Society. For children ages 4-10 and their families. Hawk Talk and Birding Hike

Guest Host: Michael Kuriga, “The Bird Man” and his peregrine falcon to learn about birds of prey, then enjoy bird watching along the trails at Dale’s Ridge.

Trees & Me

Frog Frenzy

Learn about amphibians, indicator species, geology and vernal pools on this guided hike.

Art in the Park

Historical Tour of Lewisburg (Following Limestone Run) Part I – Walking Tour
Saturday, May 6th
9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
(Ages 18+ or child with parent/guardian)

Starting Location: Meet at the east end of Mill Street, east of the intersection of Mill Street and Brown Street. End point: North 7th Street and Green Alley.

Explore the environmental history of Limestone Run in Lewisburg during this guided walking tour. 

This event is in coordination with our affiliate, Buffalo Creek Watershed Alliance (BCWA), Bucknell University Humanities Center, and the Union County Historical Society.

This is a free even though registration is required. Please register at www.linnconservancy.org/registration. For adults ages 18+, though children are welcome accompanied by an adult.


Bird House Building

Location: Turtle Creek Preserve, 1248 Supplee Mill Rd, Lewisburg, PA 

Blue bird boxes are ready to be built and dispersed with your help.

Starting Location: Meet at the St. Mary’s Wetlands on Hardwood Drive. End point: We’ll bike the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail to Hoffa Mill Road (and the Purple Cow!)

Native Plant/Mushroom ID & Foraging Hike

Guest Hosts: Bill Russel, Founder and past president of the Central Pennsylvania Mushroom Society and author of the popular Field Guide to Wild Mushrooms of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic.

Enjoy seeking and finding native mushrooms and plant species with our experts followed by a tasty mushroom treat for all to share.

Trail Blazing Scavenger Hunt @ Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo

What’s the Buzz About Pollinators?

Discover the importance of pollinators and native plant species while exploring our Native Plant Garden.

Pollinator and Native Plants @ the PA Lavender Festival
Saturday, June 17th

Location: Blue Sparrow Farm, 704 Klinetob Rd., Milton, PA

We will be offering a “Pollinator & Native Plants” presentation featuring guest speaker, Elizabeth Capaldi, Professor of Animal Behavior at Bucknell University. and a family friendly activity led by Becky Cunfer, Adventure Coordinator at the Linn Conservancy, from 1PM-3PM during the PA Lavender Festival.

The PA Lavender Festival runs both Saturday June 17th and Sunday June 18th. Open from 10am-8pm Saturday and 10am-6pm Sunday, this event will also showcase artists, crafters, wineries, distilleries, food trucks, educational demonstrations and more.

Conservation Day Camp
Monday-Friday, June 19th-23rd
9:00AM – 3:30PM
(Ages 8-17)

Location: Dale’s Ridge Trail, 1471 Strawbridge Road, Lewisburg, PA

Enjoy a week of outdoor fun, primitive skill building and more. 

Registration required. For children ages 8-17. Participants and parent(s) should also plan to attend Camp Orientation scheduled for May 27th from 1-3 PM.  More details about Camp Orientation will be shared with all camper families.

Registration will open in March 2023.

The Great American Backyard Campout
Friday, June 23rd & Saturday, June 24th / 24th & 25th Rain Date
4:00 PM – 10:00 AM
(Ages 8-17 and their families)

Location: Dale’s Ridge Trail, 1471 Strawbridge Road, Lewisburg, PA

Campers and their families will enjoy an evening in nature including a campfire, s’mores and so much more!

Registration required. For children enrolled in Conservation Day Camp and their families only. Participants must be accompanied by an adult to attend. More details about the Great American Backyard Campout will be shared with all camper families.

Registration will open in March 2023.

Fireflies in the Night
Friday, June 23rd

Learn about Pennsylvania’s state insect, decorate a collection jar and enjoy chasing and collecting fireflies with friends.
