Shamokin Mtn. Trail Closed as of May 14

 In News

The Shamokin Mtn. Trail will close permanently on May 14. The trail is on private property as are the Conservancy’s other conservation easement-related trails (Koons, Dale’s Ridge, Glacier Pools). The owners and managers of these properties have the right to regulate access to their properties as they see fitting. With a change of ownership of the Shamokin Mtn. property coming soon, the current owners have determined that it is time to close the trail.

The owners of the Shamokin Mtn. property have graciously permitted public access for over 30 years. Throughout that time, they have donated their time and money to maintain the trail, the access road to the trailhead and the informational kiosk with trail maps/guides. The Conservancy is most grateful for this partnership with the owners. They and the Conservancy thank users of the trail for respectful and courteous use and enjoyment of the trail.

In addition to other Linn Conservancy trails, Shikellamy, Snyder-Middleswarth, and R.B. Winter state parks are all within a short drive. The Conservancy’s two Rural Routes brochures, which are available on this website, lead to many additional sites well worth exploring within Union County, as does an article in our Linn Log winter 2021 edition highlighting wonderful drives, scenic views and hiking opportunities.
